NORWAY!
Welcome to our Norwegian holiday section.
In this section we will offer you holidays to all parts of Norway and in all times of the year.

Why Norway?
Imagine a country where nature is a majestic gift to mankind. Imagine a country enjoying the abundance of nature. Accumulated through thousands of years. You will discover a country, which is enchantingly unique. Natural. Imagine a country where light and darkness intertwine. Where seasons melt together in colours and crystals. Imagine a country where the thawing snow gives way to blossom. Where sea and mountain unite. Where nature is a precious gift to mankind. Discover a country where nature creates art. Where you are invited to a life-fulfilling experience of diversity.

Friendly, down-to-earth people, unique scenery, summer nights bright as day and delightful snowy winters make Norway a very special country. In summer, there are plenty of attractions and activities to keep you busy - the unspoilt open country of the Sámi people in the north and fjords, salmon fishing and festivals in the south.

Skiing in Norway
Norway has the kind of snow reports that turn its Southern European counterparts green with envy. Yet guaranteed snow (from November to May) isn't all you can look forward to.

Norway is a land of genuine breathtaking beauty. Majestic fjords, frozen lakes and gently rounded mountains make for a setting which verges on fairytale idyllic.

Resort facilities and equipment hire are nothing short of excellent, and tuition with friendly, English speaking instructors for adults and children of all ages is available.

In many destinations, children get free lift passes, and often free helmets too. Children have their own areas on slopes and ski resorts provide creches and nanies.

Business may be booming for Norwegian ski resorts, but there is still plenty of space for everyone – nice, wide slopes and excellent lift capacity makes learning to ski a stress-free experience.

Off-piste there's plenty to keep the whole family entertained. Norway's apres ski takes some beating and after a hard day on the slopes you won't be short of places to eat or drink. Then there's the dog sledding, toboganning, or ice fishing, to name but a few of the activities on offer.

Alternatively many of Norway's ski resorts are perfectly positioned should you fancy a day trip to the magnificent fjords, or perhaps a spot of culture and shopping in Oslo or Bergen.

And after a day in all that fresh air, why not round the evening off with a trip to the sauna or simply relax in front of the fireplace? Whatever your fancy, a winter holiday in Norway will put a smile on your face.

The Drambuie Ice Golf tournament will be played on the stunning Advent ice fjord. Ice Golf is a truly unique and original golfing opportunity: played on "whites" instead of "greens", the balls are orange and, due to extreme temperatures, only travel at approximately 80% of the normal distance, but the length of the course will be reduced by about 25% to accommodate this. Dog-sleds have right of way on the golf course and players will also need to watch out for polar bears and seal-holes

From 800-1050 AD, the Norsemen entered the European arena in a serious way. They came suddenly and intensely and frightened the daylights out of established society, which certainly was used to war, but not to the surprise tactics employed by the Vikings.

The world knows Norway as the Land of the Midnight Sun. Strictly speaking, only North Norway lives up to the name in a literal sense. It is only in the north that the sun truly never sets during the summer months.

During the dark winter months, North Norway has yet another remarkable phenomenon - the Northern Lights - or Aurora Borealis, that flames across the heavens in varying intensity and form.

The latest figures show that Holmenkollen ski jump and culture centre is still Norway's most popular tourist attraction. Tusenfryd amusement park came second and Kristiansand Zoo third on the Norwegian Tourist Board's list of the 50 most visited attractions this summer.

TRAVELS THAT WE OFFER:

CRUISES.
Few places in the world can offer such unique and magnificent scenery as Scandinavia, and cruising could not be a more relaxing and enjoyable way to experience such magnificent splendours. We are pleased to introduce a selection of interesting voyages in and around Scandinavia. From cruising the Norwegian Fjords to cruising the Scandinavian Capitals is just an example of the many voyages we offer.

BIG CITY BREAKS:

Oslo: one thousand years old at the new millennium

Around 1000, Oslo was founded at the very head of Viken, as Oslo Fjord was known at that time. One thousand years later, Oslo’s great anniversary coincided with the millennium festival that was celebrated around the world.

Oslo, the capital of Norway, is situated at the head of Oslo Fjord surrounded by forested ridges and is both a municipality and a county.

Oslo is the seat of the Norwegian Government and Parliament, and the Royal Palace is situated at the end of Karl Johan Street - the main street of Oslo.

The city’s many astonishing features are unusual for a European capital. The city limits encompass wilderness areas as well as an array of restaurants almost unparalleled in Scandinavia. In winter, the city has an artificial skating rink only a stone’s throw from the National Theatre and the University. Oslo City Hall is located in the city centre only a few hundred metres from the city’s main street and overlooks Oslo Fjord filled with moored pleasure craft, shrimp trawlers, cruise ships, charter boats and ferries to all the islands.

Oslo abounds with sights of interest, such as museums, parks, urban districts with listed buildings and a well-developed array of shops. As most sights are within walking distance of each other, you can leave your car behind.

Oslo is considered to be one of the most leading shipping cities in the world. During peak season, many cruise ships dock at the quays that are still within walking distance of the city centre. It is only a ten-minute drive from these same quays to splendid bathing beaches with clean water.

Oslo is filled with paradoxes. For this reason, visitors perceive Norway’s capital as an interesting city with an abundance of things to see and do – regardless if the visitor’s purpose is shopping, tourism, business meetings or conferences. Many options are always available, regardless of whether you want to enjoy a sumptuous dinner at a restaurant rated in the Michelin Guide or a brisk, refreshing winter experience on dog sleds through Oslo’s wilderness.

Bergen - World heritage city
Ever since the intrepid King Olav Kyrre sailed into the harbour and founded the city in 1070, Bergen has attracted people from all quarters of the world. Some came and went, others decided to make Bergen their home. Bergensers travelled abroad and learned and so Bergen became a melting-pot of cultures and Norway's most international city.

Bergen grew up around its colourful harbour - it was the hub of commerce, seafaring and crafts-manship. We became the north's largest city, Norway's first capital city and the seat of royalty. So important was Bergen by the 13th century that the Hansas - the German medieval guild of merchants - opened one of their four European offices on the wharf called Bryggen. Some of the Hansas chose to become Bergensers. And so have many others throughout the centuries. But Bryggen stays the same, its contour just as it was in the 11th century, untouched by shifting times. It has become a symbol of our cultural heritage and has gained a place on UNESCO's World Heritage List. Bergen has become a World Heritage City.

Bergensers are proud of their city and of their city's traditions. They look after their past because it is a part of their living present. A city with its feet in the sea, its head in the skies and its heart in the right place - full of infectious enthusiasm, and happy to share it with visitors. Welcome to Bergen, the old city with a young outlook.

STAVANGER.
The North Sea has always been important to Stavanger, Norway's fourth largest city located on the southwest coast of Norway. Fishing, boatbuilding and oil - all are dependent on it. Stavanger was a canning and fishing city in the last century that has turned into the oil capital of Norway. But Stavanger is a lot more than that. Stavanger is Norway's fourth largest city with 110.000 inhabitants. Nearly 7% have a birthplace other than Norway. Stavanger is often referred to as Norway's largest "small town". Everyone in Stavanger knows someone who knows someone else. But, Stavanger is more cosmopolitan and international than any comparable Norwegian city. Visitors tend to fall in love with Stavanger, especially "Old Stavanger", a very pretty and vibrant part of town. This area, near the international ferries, is composed of small, wooden houses and cobble-stone roads. Combine this with an international atmosphere which is blended with the city's own charm.

The town center is for shopping, relaxation, movies and nightlife. You can drive around the town, but the roads in the center are for pedestrians only. Stavanger is a safe city, with a very low crime rate.

Stavanger delights visitors, both vacationers and conference participants, from all over the world. This part of Fjord Norway in the county of Rogaland has many beautiful sights, mountains, picturesque islands, waterfalls and plains. Don't forget to see the Pulpit Rock and the gorgeous Lysefjord, two sights giving true meaning to the word "spellbinding.

Stavanger - is it Norway's largest small town
